(FILES) In this file photo taken on October 25, 2017, China's President and General Secretary of the Communist Party Xi Jinping waves after a speech during the introduction of the Communist Party of China's Politburo Standing Committee, in Beijing's Great Hall of the People. - When Xi Jinping took power in 2012, some observers predicted he would be the most liberal Communist Party leader in China's history, based on his low-key profile, family backstory and perhaps a degree of misguided hope. Ten years later, those forecasts lie in tatters, proving only how little was understood of the man who looks set to become China's most powerful ruler since Mao Zedong at a major party congress in October 2022. China wants to prevent the Russia-Ukraine crisis from spiraling out of control, stressing that dialogue and negotiations are the only possible ways to resolve the conflict, according to a document published by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The document was published this morning by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The plan envisages the lifting of Western sanctions against Russia, the introduction of security measures at nuclear sites in Ukraine, the opening of humanitarian corridors for the evacuation of civilians and the undertaking of activities to restore grain exports.
