Mihajlovic died in a hospital in Italy while his family was by his side, after his health deteriorated in the previous days after a difficult battle with the dangerous disease. 

The Serbian coach has been fighting leukemia since 2019, which he defeated twice, but the dangerous disease returned again and this time Mihajlovic did not emerge victorious.

Mihajlovic started his football career in Borovo in 1986, after which he played for Vojvodina and Crvena Zvezda before moving to Italy where he played for Roma, Sampdoria, Lazio and Inter Milan.

As a coach he worked in Fiorentina, Catania, Serbia, Sampdoria, Milan, Turin and his last assignment was in Bologna.
