Novak Djokovic has successfully cleared the first two hurdles at the Australian Open, but not in the way he must have imagined given the vast difference in quality between his opponents.

Over seven hours spent on the court against Dino Prizhmic and Alex Popirin was surprising even for the Serbian tennis player himself, who tried to explain the reasons why he didn’t look good in those matches, either playing or physically. He also referred to the factor of opponents who played better than their capabilities.

Djokovic now awaits Tomas Martin Echeverri, who dominated Andy Mario and Gael Monfils in the first two rounds.
