Speculation that a Formula 1 race could soon be held on the African continent has intensified following Rwanda’s initiative to build a track in its country as soon as possible.

This was confirmed by Rwandan President Paul Kagame at the FIA ceremony in Kigali. Saudi Arabia’s plan is to build the track by 2028 or 2029, while Rwanda wants it to be finished even earlier.

A Formula 1 race on the African continent was last held in 1993, for the South African Grand Prix in Kyalami.
