30 years ago today, legendary Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna died during the San Marino Grand Prix.

The race was run on May 1, 1994, when Senna hit the wall on the fifth lap at a speed of 307 kilometers per hour. Medical crews responded quickly, and the driver was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.

The incident did not stop the race, but it continued, and the winner was Michael Schumacher who won the first of the titles in the “fastest circus” that year.
