Former US President Donald Trump’s presidential campaign says he has raised $7 million since he was indicted last week.
President Trump collected more than $6.6 million after “crazy” Jack Smith announced a political prosecution, the Trump campaign wrote in an email to supporters, referring to the U.S. attorney who is investigating the case.
More than $4.5 million came from digital fundraising, while $2.1 million was raised from a fundraising event Tuesday at Trump’s Bedminster Club in New Jersey.
A spokesman for Trump, who is the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, later said funds raised had topped $7 million since the indictment was announced Thursday.
Trump is accused of illegally withholding classified government documents after he left the White House and of conspiring to obstruct a federal investigation into the matter. Trump pleaded not guilty to the charges in court on Tuesday.
