The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has said it is “deeply concerned” by the UK government’s proposed asylum bill.
In a statement from the UNHCR, it is pointed out that the law, in its current form, “forces the British Home Secretary to refuse access to the UK asylum system to those who enter the country irregularly”, reports London’s Guardian.
The UN agency warned in a statement that the asylum seekers will be detained in Britain while arrangements are made to transfer them to another country.
Most people fleeing war and persecution simply cannot obtain passports and visas, and safe and “legal” routes are not available to them, according to UNHCR.
