DOMINOS FAILED IN ITALY: The company is leaving the “home of Pisa”

Just seven years after appearing in Milan, American pizzeria chain Domino’s is leaving Italy after failing to win over local customers.

The fast food giant has closed the last of its 29 stores on the Apennine peninsula after struggling to establish itself in the country, which has proved difficult to win over locals.

The company’s exit from Italy was met with cheers of approval on Twitter, where users mocked Domino’s for even trying to find a foothold in the home of pizza.

It arrived in Italy in 2015, when it already had more than 12,000 points of sale worldwide. He planned to win over customers with “purely Italian” ingredients, including 100 percent tomato and mozzarella sauce, and products such as Parma prosciutto, Gorgonzola, Grana Padano cheese and Campania buffalo mozzarella.

The company’s plans to “catch” Italians with pizza delivery were dashed by the pandemic, as domestic pizzerias also turned en masse to delivery to the customer’s address due to corona restrictions that closed restaurants.
