The goal of the change is to instead of the previous focus on communication between friends and relatives, to show users as much fun content as possible, as well as content from people and pages they do not follow, all in order to attract as many as possible more users and increase their activity on this network.

The reason why Zuckerberg and his team decided on that move is TikTok, a social network focused on short videos, which in a short time threatened Facebook and took a good part of its users, especially younger ones.

When the change becomes available to users, content that Zuckerberg calls a discovery engine will be available on Facebook’s main screen or home page and aims, as the name suggests, to discover new and entertaining content based on personalized recommendations powered by artificial intelligence. It will also have two options that Facebook previously copied from the competition – stories and Instagram Reels.
